FAIR TRADE

FAIRTRADE represents an alternative to conventional trade and is based on cooperation between producers and consumers. FAIRTRADE offers producers fairer treatment and more profitable trading conditions. This allows them to improve their living conditions and make plans for the future.

Association of Small Banana Producers El Guabo has managed to comply with its affiliated small producers and their workers, by guaranteeing compliance with health and safety standards, providing adequate housing when appropriate and more FAIRTRADE criteria that allows you to carry in your banana the Fair Trade Certification Seal FAIRTRADE. Through the Social and Environmental Improvement Program (PROMESA), the Association works to comply with the social and environmental standards that are related to the fair trade certificates granted by FAIRTRADE Labeling.
PROMESA, in the social area, ensures that the producer partners affiliated with the IESS benefit from a basket of products; a school voucher for the children of producers; affiliation to a private medical insurance; as a fair trade social prize, which is used to pay for affiliation to the IESS, and in most cases a fund has been created to make improvements in irrigation, drainage, cableway, packaging and logistics systems. In the environmental area, it monitors the activities of the farms to comply with the standards required by European consumers and the country’s legislation.
